Recreational skating programs are available at both the Erin Community Centre (Centre 2000) and the Hillsburgh Community Centre.
The holiday skating schedule is now available! Please review the updated dates, times, and locations, as regular skate sessions have been adjusted to accommodate special holiday programs.
Holiday skating schedule: December 23, 2024 – January 5, 2025.
Winter schedule: Resumes on January 6, 2025.

Recreational Skating Programs
Adult Skating - A leisure skate for participants aged 18 and older. No sticks or pucks allowed.
Parent and Tot Skate - Designed for families with young children or homeschooling families, this session offers a quiet, relaxed atmosphere. An adult must provide constant, active supervision on the ice.
Public Skating - Open to all ages. Shinny hockey, figure skating, and speed skating are not permitted during public sessions.
Ticket Ice - A practice session for figure skaters only. Private training is not allowed.
Shinny - An informal, pick-up hockey game organized by participants. Players must bring their own skates, CSA-approved helmet, gloves, neck guard, stick, and puck.
Stick and Puck – Intended for participants to practice passing and stickhandling. Skaters aged 6 and younger must be accompanied by a parent/guardian on the ice (maximum of 3 children per adult).
Shinny and Stick and Puck Rules
- CSA-approved helmet required for all skaters
- Full cage for skaters under 18
- Full equipment is highly recommended

Recreational Skating Safety
- Accidents or injuries must be reported to Town staff immediately.
- Only individuals wearing skates are permitted on the ice.
- Food and drinks are not allowed on the ice.
- CSA approved helmets are strongly recommended for all skaters, and mandatory for Shinny, and Stick and Puck.
- Parents or guardians must remain on or near the ice and provide full supervision for children under 10.
- Coaching is not permitted.
- All skaters must skate in the same direction during recreational skating.
- Wheelchairs, wheelchair skates and sledges are permitted.
- Town-approved skating aids are available for those who require assistance and must remain within designated skate areas while on the ice.
- Wheelchairs are allowed on the ice if a responsible person age 16 or older with skates on accompanies the participant.
Not allowed during Recreational Skating:
- General horseplay, fighting, or deliberate interference with other skaters.
- Figure skating; skating backwards, erratic skating, or excessive speeds.
- Tag or games.
- Pucks, hockey sticks, chairs, strollers, or any equipment (except for town-approved skate aids).
Ice maintenance
Ice maintenance will occur before the scheduled end time of recreational skating and shinny programs. Skaters will be asked to leave the ice when directed. Players and skaters must wait until the ice resurfacer has finished and the doors are fully closed before re-entering the ice.
Coaching or teaching
Coaching or structured instruction is not allowed during drop-in or reserved recreational programs. Casual pointers are permitted as long as they are informal and incidental to recreational activities. Town staff may use discretion to determine if an activity is considered coaching.
