Tender awarded for project to update HVAC, electrical, main lobby and more

Town of Erin council has approved funding to help give Centre 2000 a much-needed renewal.

In 2020, the Town was successful in receiving $1.9 million from the federal government, through the Canada Infrastructure Program to renovate the Erin Community Centre.

This money, provided under the Community, Culture and Recreation funding stream, will be used to make critical upgrades to the HVAC and electrical systems at the Erin Community Centre inside Centre 2000, as well as update the fire system, main lobby, Shamrock Room and snack bar.

The funding will also help purchase a generator, which would allow the Erin Community Centre to become an Emergency Centre in the event of a crisis.

Council approved the staff recommendation to accept a bid from CPM Construction for $2.9 million.

In addition to the federal grant, council approved $360, 334 to be used from the Centre 2000 Capital Reserve, $156, 776 from the Safe Restart COVID-19 grant and $684,014 through taxation.

Work on the Erin Community Centre is expected to start this year and be completed in 2025.
