Erin approves 2025 budget levy of 2.4%

Date: Nov 29, 2024

Town to make significant investments in infrastructure, IT with 2.4 per cent levy

The Town of Erin is proud to share its 2025 Budget and 2026-2028 Forecasts, passed by council on Nov. 28.

This budget includes a 2.4 per cent levy, which for the average home assessed at $600,000 is an annual increase of approximately $45.

The budget allows for critical investments in IT, road infrastructure and recreation as the Town anticipates population growth.

“Staff reviewed the first draft, finding efficiencies while protecting core services and investing in infrastructure,” said Wendy Parr, Director of Finance and Treasurer with the Town of Erin. “We will continue to work together to make the best decisions for Town residents and businesses to meet our current and future needs.”

At the Nov. 28 meeting, Council worked to reduce Erin’s 2025 budget by 0.5 per cent, bringing the proposed 2.9 per cent levy down to 2.4 per cent by withdrawing an additional $60,000 from the Tax Rate Stabilization Fund.

“Staff have worked very hard to put together a budget that has increased community services with a minimal impact to the tax levy for Town of Erin taxpayers,” said Mayor Michael Dehn, noting that the County of Wellington is facing a proposed 4.1 per cent increase in 2025 associated with increased policing costs.

The Town of Erin collects property taxes on behalf of the County of Wellington and Upper Grand District School Board, which in 2024 accounted for 72 per cent of the total tax collected.

“Town and County Council's and Staff recognize the hardship many residents in our local community and across the County are facing, and best efforts are being made to minimize any required increases,” Dehn said.

Erin’s 2025 budget includes funding for a new Fire Department Aerial Ladder Truck, a Roads Grader, a Roads Restoration Program, and designs for bridges and culverts requiring replacement.

There is also funding allocated for new arena boards, theatre seating and cabinets at Centre 2000, as well as an update for the Town of Erin website.

Town of Erin staff collected input on the 2025 Budget Survey earlier this fall, which showed residents’ prioritization of Town services and feedback on service delivery.

Staff have incorporated these valuable insights into the budget and projections for the coming years.
