Erin Council approves 2.9% property tax levy for 2022
ERIN, ON: Erin Town Council today approved Budget 2022 and a 2.9% or $223k increase in total town property tax levy for next year. A 2.9% tax rate increase translates to approximately $52.99 annual increase in taxes for an average residential home assessed at $600k. Similar to past years, the tax levy for 2022 continues to remain lower than the rate of inflation.
The Town of Erin’s total Budget for 2022 is $45.9 million, consisting of $13.3 million in operating budget (maintenance, utilities, salaries and reserves) and $32.6 million in capital budget (major repair and purchase, replacement of assets such as roads, bridges)
Highlights
- $920k towards Roads Maintenance
- $975k towards Fire and Emergency Services
- $726k towards Parks and Recreation operations
- $297k towards Economic Development
Some of the Capital Projects identified and recommended for 2022 include:
- Hillsburgh Community Centre
- Bridge 5 (2nd Line South Erin)
- Water Meter Replacement (not part of property tax levy; funded from water reserves)
- Water Capital Equipment (not part of property tax levy; funded from water reserves)
- Wastewater treatment plant and collection system (not part of the property tax levy; funded through the financial agreements with the development community)
