News Release: Five Local Businesses Receive Town of Erin Community Improvement Plan Funding

The Town of Erin has awarded five businesses with funding through the Community Improvement Plan (CIP) for projects that improve the property and promote beautification and economic development in the Town. In 2020, the Town budgeted $40,000 for the CIP programme and awarded $34,645.67 to five qualifying local businesses. 

The CIP Selection Committee reviews each application and determines if the project aligns with the Town of Erin's CIP criteria. Businesses are able to apply to the CIP through two annual application intake periods, one ending in March and one ending in September. Upon reviewing each application, the Town has awarded the following businesses with funding to assist in their projects:

  • Erin Fitness;
  • Furniture Renew;
  • Grist Mill Properties Inc.;
  • Kulhay Wellness Clinic and Educational Clinic; and
  • Timpano Investment Properties Ltd. 

This year, the Town of Erin expanded the CIP offerings to include the full complement of incentives and provide assistance to more local businesses, the full list of incentives are:

  • Accessibility Improvement Grant
  • Building Improvement Grant
  • Commercial Conversion Grant
  • Design and Study Grant
  • Downtown Housing Grant
  • Façade and Signage Improvement Grant
  • Parking and Landscaping Improvement Grant
  • Planning Application and Building Permit Fee Grant
  • Public Art Grant
  • Tax Increment Equivalent Grant (TIEG)

The Town of Erin adopted the CIP programme in 2018 since then, the Town has awarded 20 local businesses with financial incentives through the CIP. Through the success of the programme, the Town has estimated that for every dollar invested by the Town of Erin, fifteen dollars will be re-invested by the private business owner back into the community. 

"The Community Improvement Plan provides local businesses with a hand-up to revitalize and enhance their business and I look forward to continuing to work with these local businesses," said Robyn Mulder, Economic Development Officer. Mayor Allan Alls said, "2020 has been a challenging year for most, especially businesses. This year more than ever I am pleased that the Town is able to support local businesses and invest in their projects through the CIP programme."

The next intake application period will end on March 26, 2021.
