Results from Erin’s Strategic Planning Monopoly Night Exercise Now Available

The Town of Erin is excited to announce that the executive summary of its recent interactive Monopoly Night strategic planning engagement open house is now complete and available to the public.

On Oct. 9, community members gathered at the Erin Legion for an engaging and fun evening of real-life Monopoly, where residents “invested” in various community projects and initiatives using “Erin Bucks”. Each project had its own price tag and support was calculated based on if enough Erin Bucks covered the full project cost, or just a percentage. This unique format allowed residents to voice their priorities in a fun and interactive way. Residents spent a total of $169,965,100 in Erin Bucks during Monopoly Night.

The top 10 community projects based on the public feedback provided at Monopoly Night are:

  • Develop a 10-year improvement plan to rehabilitate or replace aging bridges and culverts
  • Support Senior Programming
  • Promote green design standards (GDS), smart green technology, and climate action initiatives
  • Establish and enforce green standards for all new developments and create guidelines
  • Reduce truck traffic on main streets (Signage)
  • Launch a community education campaign on circular economies, sustainable development
  • Partner with local organizations
  • Establish & foster relationships with key equine businesses
  • Create & implement strategies for new and existing recreation facilities
  • Update the Recreation Master Plan and secure funding for new amenities

The top 10 projects based on the Erin Bucks allocated per project are:

  • Build a new multi-use recreation centre - $32.4 million
  • Promote green design standards (GDS), smart green technology, and climate action initiatives - $12.2 million
  • Conduct a roads needs study to prioritize repairs, paving, and improvements - $6.56 million
  • Develop a 10-year improvement plan to rehabilitate or replace aging bridges and culverts - $6.29 million
  • Establish and enforce green standards for all new developments and create guidelines - $6.28 million
  • Identify wastewater connection priorities through septic inspection monitoring & seek funding opportunities - $6.22 million
  • Support Senior Programming - $6 million
  • Enhance accessibility with ramps and other initiatives - $5.35 million
  • Develop a Transportation Master Plan, including a detailed traffic plan to address future growth - $5.33 million

Erin is currently creating a community strategic plan to guide the next decade of growth and progress, and the insights gathered from Monopoly Night will play a vital role in shaping the Town's strategic planning process.
