The Town of Erin is excited to announce the reopening of Sideroad 17. After navigating unforeseen obstacles, a newly constructed bridge near the intersection of the 8th Line is now complete.
"We are delighted to announce the completion of this vital infrastructure project," said Erin Mayor Michael Dehn. Due to public safety concerns, the original culvert required replacement, and subsequent environmental reports determined that a bridge was needed in its place.
"The transition from culvert to bridge not only enhances safety but also positions us to adapt to future challenges, such as increased water flows due to climate change and increased traffic as the community grows. This is a significant step forward for our town's infrastructure,” added Mayor Dehn.
Esposito Bros. Construction undertook the $2.1 million project, funded through the 2021 budget and the Canada Community Building Fund Reserve.
However, the journey was fraught with challenges. "Our contractor’s construction crews encountered unexpected bedrock and adverse weather conditions, necessitating design modifications. These issues delayed completion in 2023, with the onset of the winter season halting work until spring”, Mayor Dehn explained.
Acknowledging the frustration experienced by residents, staff, and Council due to construction delays, the Town of Erin extends heartfelt gratitude to residents for their patience and understanding throughout this challenging period.
