Town of Erin to Reopen Some Outdoor Recreation Amenities

On May 19, the Ontario government announced the immediate reopening of a number of outdoor recreational amenities as part of the first stage of its plan to reopen the province.

The Town of Erin is working towards opening some outdoor amenities for Monday, May 25, 2020, while maintaining provincial orders and following the directions of public health.

What’s Opening

The following amenities will be reopening under new provincial COVID-19 safety protocols, requiring two metre distancing during use and no groups of more than five, other than members of the same household:

•Publicly accessible multi-use sports fields, including soccer fields and baseball diamonds are open to individuals and for casual play
•Tennis courts can be used with protocols and guidelines for club member use only
•Picnic tables, benches and shelters
•BMX/ Skate Park

List of Parks Reopening on May 25, 2020:

• Athenwood Park
• Ballinafad Community Park
• Carberry Park
• Centre 2000 Community Park
• Hillsburgh Historical Park
• Lions’ Club Park
• McMillan Park
• Mountainview Parkette
• Riverside Park
• Victoria Park

Team sports or groups of more than five that are not part of the same household are still not permitted due
to provincial emergency orders.

What’s Closed

Town amenities and spaces that remain closed at this time under provincial emergency order, include:
• Playgrounds and play structures (e.g. swings, slides, climbers)
• Public washrooms
• Town recreation centres
• Sports fields for organized group sports
COVID-19 Safety recommendations for using public recreation amenities:
• Users must practice physical distancing and stay at least two-metres apart from anyone not part of
the same household
• Users are encouraged to wear a mask or face covering if physical distancing is a challenge
• Team play at sports fields and sports courts are not permitted, only casual play with participants
from the same household
• Users should bring their own hand sanitizer and water to wash their hands before and after visiting
the park
