The Town of Erin is excited to announce a new Heritage Plaque Program, which will not only promote awareness of local heritage, but also allow homeowners to display their property’s history with pride.
Erin’s Heritage Committee has worked with Town staff to develop this new initiative, which is separate from the heritage designation process under the Ontario Heritage Act.
This program gives homeowners and owners of commercial buildings the opportunity to display the date that their building was established, the name of the first owner, and their occupation.
“It’s finally here,” said Councillor Jamie Cheyne, who sits on the Heritage Committee.
Councillor Cheyne added he has received several requests for a program of this nature, which was years in the making.
“I think there will be a lot of up-take,” he said, adding that there are many owners of historic homes in town who take good care of their historic homes and are proud of their property’s history.
Applicants are encouraged to visit the County of Wellington Museum and Archives to find key details and documentation about their property as part of the application process.
All applications will go to the Heritage Committee for consideration.
The application fee is $125, which covers the cost of administration and materials. For more information, and a copy of the application form, visit https://www.erin.ca/town-hall/committees/heritage-committee/heritage-plaque-program
