Nomination Packages
Nomination packages will be available at the Clerk’s Office for those persons wishing to run for office during normal office hours beginning on Wednesday April 27, 2022. Please e-mail elections@erin.ca to book an appointment- this allows staff to answer any questions you may have/review the package with you prior to filing.

Filing a Nomination
Nominations may be filed during regular office hours 8:30 am - 4:30 pm at the Office of the Clerk beginning on Monday, May 2nd, 2022 until Thursday, August 18th, and on Nomination Day, Friday, August 19th, 2022 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Appointments are required.
Nomination papers must be filed in person as an original signature is required. The candidate will be required to show suitable identification, and pay a filing fee paid by cash, credit or debit card, certified cheque or money order (payable to the Town of Erin).
Nomination Filing Fee: Office of Mayor - $200 and all other Offices - $100
Please note that the filing fee is refunded after the candidate files the Form 4, Financial Statement.
However, if a nomination is filed by an agent, the candidate's declaration must be completed prior to filing. If the form is not signed upon filing, the nomination form will not be accepted.
Withdrawing a Nomination
A candidate who wishes to withdraw his/her nomination paper must file, at the Office of the Clerk, a written withdrawal by no later than 2:00 pm on Friday, August 19, 2022 (Nomination Day) and you will be required to provide identification. Please note that you will still be required to submit a Form 4, Financial Statement by the filing deadline date.
Qualifications
To run for the Office, on the day the nomination paper is filed, a person must be:
- A Canadian citizen
- At least 18 years of age
- A resident of the Town of Erin, or
- An owner or tenant of land in the Town of Erin, or the spouse of the owner or tenant
- Not legally prohibited from voting
- Not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office
Persons Disqualified from Running for Council
The following are disqualified from being elected as a member of council, or from holding office as a member of council:
- A judge of any court
- A member of Provincial Legislature, the Federal House of Commons or Senate who has not resigned from their office by the close of nominations.
- A candidate who failed to file the necessary financial statement in the last municipal election or by-election
- An employee of the municipality, unless they have taken a leave of absence as required by the Municipal Elections Act, s. 30(1).
